Surroundings: Activities to do, places to see, to ski and to eat
You may be in the mountainous countryside but there is much to enjoy, a great variety of things, for both old and young.
THE CATHEDRAL OF SAINT BERTRAND DE COMMINGES...
...is on the road of Saint Jacques de Compostelle. Dating from the 11th and 14th centuries, the Cathedral of Saint Bertrand is surrounded by charming old streets with art craft shops. It is one of the most beautiful medieval villages of France. You will hear the organ during the weekly mass or a special concert offered in July and August festivals.
The VIA ROMANA...
...which can be admired from the cloisters, will lead you to the excavations and fortifications of the ancient Roman city not far from the Basilica of Saint Just de Valcabrere. This is a jewel of ancient Roman Art. In Lugdunum, you may experience Roman food from ancient recipes.

ALL THE ACTIVITIES IN ONE … well, almost.
PYRENEES HO
This is a must for all the young … as well as for those not so young. All the children, teenagers and adults we know who have been there have loved it.
WALKS AND HIKES
Our Gite is a great starting point for leisurely walks through the lower villages and woodlands. And with only a modest car drive you have quick access to high altitude hikes in the mountains, to lakes and summits with expansive views. If you are a keen walker you must go to the Hospice de France, and to the Lac d’O and you can climb to the top of the Pic du Gar – the mountain you look at from the front of the Gite.
CYCLING
For cyclists, riders will appreciate numerous cols to attempt: we are close to the challenge of Port de Balès – “19 kms of delight” is the strap line - made famous by the Tour de France. There are many cycling options with a network of small quiet roads or off-road tracks for mountain biking. And there is the far more gentle and delightful cycle pathway along the River Garonne for those happier riding a ‘Sit up and Beg’ bike.

A quality restaurant that used to be known as Baluchon. A restaurant that serves meals of a high quality. It is a little more expensive, but you can’t go wrong here on the quality of the cuisine. In that sense it is continuing the reputation of Le Baluchon but is now more relaxed and friendly.. . One can eat outside and enjoy a rather lovely village setting.
